Viper Gaming presents the Viper VP4100 M.2, one of the first PCI Express 4.0 SSDs. The manufacturer promises read speeds of up to 5 gigabytes per second and offers the drive with up to 2 terabytes of storage space.
Ten-layer PCB and Phison Controller
The Viper VP4100 M.2-SSD uses a ten-layer PCB to ensure “excellent signal integrity and maximum stability.” A Phison E16 Gen4 PCIe x4 NVMe controller is designed to enable fast data transfers. According to the manufacturer, the drive achieves read speeds of up to 5 gigabytes per second and write rates of 4.4 GB/s.
The Patriot Viper VP4100 M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 x4 SSD is designed to deliver unparalleled performance on the latest 3rd generation AMD Ryzen desktop processors and X570 motherboards that allow PC enthusiasts and video producers to take advantage of the Phison PCIe 4.0 controllers and the 3rd generation of the AMD Ryzen desktop platform,” commented Roger Shinmoto, Vice President of Patriot and Viper Gaming.
Previously, only transfer rates of around 3.5 GB/s were possible for M.2 drives due to the PCIe 3.0 limitation. With the introduction of Ryzen 3000 processors and X570 motherboards, faster PCI Express 4.0 is available. PCIe 4.0 has a higher one, which allows the fast speeds of the Viper VP4100 M.2.
Aluminum heat sink to prevent performance degradation
An external temperature sensor monitors the internal temperatures of the SSD and is designed to prevent overheating. In addition, an aluminium heatspreader is used, which is designed to optimally dissipate the heat and prevent performance losses.
