Honor introduces its first gaming smartphone with the Honor Play. Features such as GPU-Turbo and 4D Smart Shock are designed to create a fluid as well as immersive gaming experience.

The Honor Play has a 6.3-inch, near-frameless screen. This dissolves with 2,340 x 1,080 pixels and is easily rounded with 2.5D glass on the sides. Its hardware hides the smartphone under an aluminum unibody case. There is the case in a normal variant, as well as a variant with a graphical surface. A special surface texture is designed to ensure that smartphone is well in hand when playing.

Dual camera with AI support

At the back is a 16-megapixel camera supported by a 2-megapixel depth information camera. Below the camera sits the fingerprint sensor to unlock the device. As is customary today, the Honor Play camera is also marketed as an AI camera, which is supposed to be able to recognize the respective subject from more than 500 scenarios in 22 categories.

In order for games to run fluently across the screen, Honor relies on the Kirin 970 SoC, which is equipped with four 2.36 GHz and four 1.8 GHz fast cores. The memory is 4GB in size and the internal storage has a capacity of 64GB. If desired, the memory can be expanded via microSD card, which is accompanied by the abandonment of the dual SIM function. To prevent the smartphone from constantly hanging on to the power while playing, Honor has integrated a 3,750 mAh battery.

4D Smart Shock & 3D Audio for more immersive gaming experience

GPU turbo technology aims to increase the efficiency of the SoC by 60 per cent, while reducing energy consumption by 30 per cent. According to Honor, games benefit from a high and more constant frame rate. With 4D Smart Shock, the Honor Play is designed to feel like a gamepad by underscoring certain actions in the game with the vibration motors. For example, 4D Smart Shock noticeable the setback of a weapon. However, for the time being only PUBG supports this effect, more games are to follow.

The 4D Smart Shock is to be supplemented by the Histen 3D audio technology.
