With the original Nex, Vivo was able to cause quite a stir, as it was one of the first smartphones with a retractable front camera and a fingerprint sensor in the display. The second generation was also able to impress with an additional display on the back. With the Vivo Nex 3, the Chinese manufacturer is now presenting the third generation, which brings some exciting features!
On the front, Vivo relies on a 6.89-inch Super AMOLED that dissolves at 2,256 x 1,080 pixels. The special feature: incredibly thin side margins and strongly curved display pages! As a result, the Vivo Nex 3 achieves a comparatively high “Screen to Body Ratio”, which is 99.6%. In order to enable the so-called “Waterfall” display, the smartphone completely dispenses with buttons. Instead, there are pressure-sensitive locations, vivo relies on the same technology from the Google Pixel 3 XL (test).
Inside, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus processor works, plus up to 12 GB of memory and 256 GB of UFS 3.0 flash for internal storage. In addition to an LTE version, Vivo will also offer a model with a 5G modem, so slowly the new mobile standard is establishing itself in new smartphones. The technology is cooled by a kind of “cooling plate” which is supposed to dissipate the heat efficiently.
On the camera side, there are three lenses on the back, which are arranged in a triangular pattern and surrounded by a circle. As the main camera, the Vivo Nex 3 uses a 64 MP sensor (f / 1.8), in addition to a 13 MP super wide-angle camera (f / 2.2) and a 13 MP zoom sensor (f / 2.48). The front camera moves out of the top, just like the first Vivo Nex (test). It solves with 16 megapixels (f / 2.09) and offers a flash LED.
The fully integrated battery can handle up to 4,500 mAh and can be charged at up to 44 watts. The Vivo Nex 3 is unlocked using the “In Display” fingerprint sensor. Other features include NFC, a 3.5 mm jack connection and various location systems (GPS, BDS, Glonass, Galileo). In addition, an AK4377A 32-bit D/A converter with amplifier is integrated.
Prices and availability
The Vivo Nex 3 will only be available for purchase in China for the time being, but perhaps it will also find its way to Europe and Germany. At first impression: a really exciting device that could score particularly with regard to the price. With a thickness of 9.4 mm, it is not exactly thin, but there is also a thick battery on board. The LTE version costs just under 5000 yuan, which is about 700 dollars. The 5G variant starts at just under 5700 yuan, equivalent to 800 dollars.
